Best time
December to April is driest. The park is wet much of the year, which is what keeps the forest standing, so expect rain whenever you go.

- Massaman curry, €25 Rate 2026-08-26. Southern kitchens make this richer than the Bangkok version. Eat at the family guesthouses on the entrance road rather than the lake package meals.
- Book ahead
- Book the lake overnight ahead in high season — raft-house capacity is genuinely limited. Park entry is a separate fee paid on the day.

- A one-day lake tour. You spend most of it in a longtail getting there and back, and miss the dawn mist that is the actual point.
Cheow Lan Lake is artificial — a reservoir created by a dam in 1982 — which is why drowned trees still stand in the shallows and why the karsts rise straight out of flat water. It photographs like Ha Long Bay and is reached by longtail from the pier, an hour or more depending on which raft houses you are heading for.
The raft houses are the experience: simple floating rooms, often without power for much of the night, where you swim off the deck and wake to mist sitting on the water. Prices run from around ฿1,500 per person for a basic package to several times that for the better-run operations, usually including boat transfers, meals and a guided paddle.
The forest itself is separate from the lake and reached from the park entrance village, where a night is cheap and the trails start. Break the two apart. Doing the lake as a day trip from the entrance means four hours of boat for two hours of lake, and you leave before the light is worth anything.
