- Nothing in the city needs booking ahead; reserve the onward train from Gambir a few days out in holiday periods.
- Skip
- Sightseeing loops that cross the city twice in traffic. Pick one district per half-day and move on the MRT.
Jakarta is a working capital before it is a sight, and it reads better in districts than in landmarks. Kota Tua, Menteng and the Sudirman corridor each give a different version of the city, and the MRT makes one of them a comfortable half-day.
Treat it as the front door rather than the destination. A night on arrival, a museum, one long meal and an early train south is a better use of the city than a schedule that fights the traffic all day.
